Behind the Scenes: Preparing My Mother’s Day Mini Sessions in Los Angeles
Every year, my Mother’s Day mini sessions are some of the most special sessions I create. They’re not just photos, they’re a way to capture motherhood in a soft, meaningful, and timeless way. But what many people don’t see is everything that goes into preparing these sets behind the scenes.
I wanted to share a little bit of my process so you can see the love and intention behind every detail.
Finding Inspiration for the Perfect Set
Everything starts with inspiration. I spend time researching different concepts, color palettes, and textures that feel soft, elegant, and true to my style.
For this year’s Mother’s Day minis, I focused on neutral tones, delicate greenery, and a romantic, timeless feel. I wanted something that would highlight the connection between moms and their babies without distracting from the emotion of the moment.
I usually create a mood board first so I can visualize how everything will come together before I start building.
Sourcing Props: Downtown LA & Amazon Finds
Once I have a vision, it’s time to bring it to life.
I love going to Downtown Los Angeles to find unique greenery, fabrics, and little details that make each set feel special. It’s one of my favorite parts of the process because you never know what you’ll find, and I’m always looking for pieces that photograph beautifully.
I also mix in Amazon finds for convenience, especially when I need specific items quickly. You can actually find some amazing deals there if you know what to look for, from florals to backdrops and styling pieces.
Trial and Error: Building the Set
Not everything works perfectly the first time, and that’s part of the process.
I spend time testing different layouts, adjusting lighting, and sometimes even repainting or rebuilding parts of the set until it feels just right. It’s a lot of trial and error, but it’s worth it to create something that feels cohesive and elevated.
Lighting is a huge part of it too. I make sure everything looks soft and flattering, especially for skin tones and textures, since these sessions are all about connection and emotion.
Bringing It All Together
Once the set is ready, I do a few test shots to make sure everything photographs the way I envisioned. I adjust details, move things around, and refine until I’m completely happy with the final look.
By the time clients step into the studio, everything is already prepared so the experience feels smooth, relaxed, and effortless.
Shooting Season: April Through May 9
These Mother’s Day mini sessions are available for a limited time, and I usually photograph them throughout April until May 9.
This allows moms to have their photos ready in time for Mother’s Day while also giving flexibility for scheduling.
Each session is designed to be quick, beautiful, and meaningful, whether you’re coming in with your baby, your kids, or even multiple generations.
Why These Sessions Are So Special
At the end of the day, these sessions are about capturing moments that pass too quickly. The tiny hands, the connection, the way your baby looks at you.
That’s why I put so much intention into every detail, because these aren’t just photos. They’re memories you’ll keep forever.
Book your Mother’s Day mini session today and let’s create something beautiful together 🤍
